Position: Grants and Resource Mobilization Consultant.
The Kenya Human Rights Commission
(KHRC) is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) which was founded in
1992 and registered in Kenya in 1994 with a mandate to entrench human
rights and democratic values in the society.
In 2012, the Commission evaluated its 2008-2012 strategic plans and
developed an interim strategic plan for 2013-2018 in which it envisions:
A human rights state and society and outlines its mission as to foster
human rights, democratic values, human dignity and social justice.
This vision and mission will be driven by the goal and new mandate of enhancing human rights centred governance at all levels.
To this end, KHRC seeks to recruit dynamic, organized, motivated and results-oriented individuals.
Overall purpose of the job
To support the implementation of KHRC’s Institutional Development and Sustainability (IDS) programme through the Financial Sustainability Project.
Contractual Period:
One year renewable contract, which is subject to performance and funding.

Duties & Responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of Programmes & the Head of Finance the consultant will be responsible for the following outputs and activities:
Develop the donor prospecting diversification grid (including capital campaign partners) and identify a new pool and category of grant makers.
Develop the resource mobilization plan and strategy.
Develop a cash and reserves investment plan for the KHRC.
Conceptualize and support the Feasibility Study on the Human Rights House.
Advice on the development and implementation of the institutional business and investment plans.
Provide the support towards the finalization of the draft position paper on “The Hybrid NGOs Model”.
Organize the peer review meetings between the KHRC and other organizations under the Ford Foundation’s Financial Sustainability Programme.
Advise and support the staff members towards the development and submissions of applications, concept papers, proposals, budgets among others donor requirements.
Assist to ensure compliance with donor reporting modules and schedules-including supporting the preparation and submission of donor reports by thematic team leaders and staff members.
Ensure timely reporting and accountability in line with KHRC’s schedules and policies.
Supervise researchers, interns and other staff or human resources assigned to this project.
Undertaking other tasks and interventions as may be assigned from time to time by your immediate supervisor.

Qualifications & Experience
To be successful in this role the post holder will have the following competencies:
A bachelor’s degree in social sciences, economics or other related disciplines.
A strong understanding of the donor environment in respect to human rights organizations at national and international levels.
At least 5 years’ experience working on resource mobilization or financial sustainability related issues.
Demonstrable experience in qualitative and quantitative research methods
Ability to network with or develop a broad array of partnerships with both state and non-state actors.
Demonstrable experience working with or coordinating partners with community and national levels organizations and networks.
Willing to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision.
