NGO Medical Careers in Kenya

Position: Medical Focal Point
 
Medecins Sans Frontieres is an international organization, which provides assistance, to populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters and victims of armed conflict, doing so irrespective of race, religion, creed or political convictions.

The position will responsible for supporting MSF Holland (MSF-OCA) Projects in Marere and Kismayo which are under complete remote management due to the political context.

Should the context in Marere and Kismayo Project area allow field visits, it is expected that the MFP (Medical Focal Point) for Marere and Kismayo will be part of the core visiting team.

He/She will be Hierarchically supervised by the Project Coordinator of Marere and Kismayo Projects and Functionally supervised by the Medical Coordinator; Somalia OCA mission.

The position will be based in Nairobi and will be responsible for Coordination of all medical activities in Marere and Kismayo projects in collaboration with the Field Medical Activity Managers (FMAM) in the projects.

Objective of the Position

To monitor, supervise, ensure quality and report on all medical activities in Marere and Kismayo projects
To be medical supply responsible for both projects in Nairobi and liaise with logistics team on supply issues
To participate in field visits, if possible, in order to evaluate and improve quality of services
To provide national staff training in Nairobi, via telemedicine and directly in project if possible
To provide information on medical and humanitarian needs in Somalia to coordination in Nairobi
To support general program development.
The key responsibilities will include communication, data management, management of medical quality, training and Emergency Preparedness Planning and response.


Requirements
Registered  MD/CO/Nurse, with a degree/Diploma in community health and tropical medicine
Extensive experience in a tropical setting with MSF or other NGO
Good clinical and managerial skills.
Excellent communication skills (written and spoken).
Ability and willingness to supervise a wide variety of medical activities, mainly  in a remote management system
Ability to implement new medical activities
Fluent in English. Fluency in Somali also will be an asset.
Report writing skills
Proficient  computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel)
Experience in coaching and teaching is an advantage.

Prepared to live and work in a very insecure and unstable environment, having armed guards, constantly behind high walls without freedom of movement when in Somalia
Patience, tolerance, stress resistance and self-confidence in a demanding and insecure environment as well as in a remote management set up
Culturally sensitive with regards to living and working in a different environments
Good sense of communication and organization
Team spirit is very important – professionally and socially
