INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY AT KENYA LAND ALLIANCE-COAST REGION

ILISHE TRUST on behalf of the Kenya Land Alliance invites applications for an internship position within the Land Rights Centre that is based within coast region for six months. The Land Rights Centre is charged with the task of ensuring increased awareness among poor women, men, children and other marginalized groups of their land rights to secure their access to land and natural resources.

The duties and responsibilities of the land rights centre intern include:-
Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Co-ordinate and link KLA work with the regions Members activities in an effort to bring KLA members to play an active role in policy advocacy on land and natural resources.

2. Critically analyze and contextualize land and natural resource issues in the region with a view to promoting appropriate understanding on need for the land and natural resources reforms. The Intern will present critical analysis on the same to KLA monthly.

3. Dissemination of Information, Education and Communications (IEC) materials developed by KLA and other strategic partners to KLA members and other stakeholders dealing with land and natural resources related activities in the region.


4. Enrich KLA network by soliciting for new members in the region for purposes of creating a wider and strong network.

5. Follow up on the regional KLA membership renewal

6. Keep and maintain KLA membership database for the region.

7. Facilitate and participate in Monitoring and Evaluation process for lesson learning and inform future regional programmatic planning.

8. Identify and in liaison with national office raise awareness on the regions crosscutting and emerging issues.

9. Carry out any other activity in line with KLA mission as directed by KLA management.

10. Compile and submit periodic reports as per the reporting tools and schedule provided by KLA secretariat for your use. The reports should be approved by the Chief Executive officer of the host organization, or his/her designate before submission to KLA secretariat.

The Land Rights centre intern will run the Centre on a day-to-day basis. S/he will work with the KLA members within the region, targeting the land-dependent marginalized communities. The successful candidate for this post will work under and report to Kenya Land Alliance Land Rights Coordinator. However, for day-to-day supervision, s/he will report to the Executive Officer of ILISHE TRUST where s/he will be stationed. 


Qualifications and Experience
A bachelor’s degree in social sciences, experience in working on land matters will be an added advantage.

Knowledge
Report writing.

Competencies
• A solid understanding of the environment in which KLAs operates; commitment to and understanding of KLAs mission, vision and objectives.
• Willing to undertake regular field and other external visits and interact with different stakeholders
• Strong networking skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Kiswahili.
• Be capable of working independently without much supervision
• A good team player.

The position will be for a maximum duration of six months with a possibility of extension for another six months based on performance and availability of funding.
