Grant Accountant Career Opportunities in Kenya
Planned Parenthood Global (PP Global) is the international division of Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA), an international nongovernmental organization working in the field of sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and rights. The Africa Regional Office of PPFA seeks to recruit a Grant Accountant to be based in Nairobi, Kenya.
Purpose of the Position
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Grant Accountant will monitor and manage expenditure and budgets in the Africa Regional Office with key emphasis on grants. This will involve financial tracking, analysis and providing financial data for use in reporting, and ensuring compliance with reporting requirements.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Codes, tracks and processes invoices, vouchers, advances, expense reports and other schedules to ensure completeness, accuracy, reasonability and validity.
• Prepares payment documents including payroll and related deductions, advances and various schedules. Write cheques and completes bank reconciliations.
• Prepares and maintains internal documents to support financial reports; monitors spending performance and ensures that financial reports are accurate and timely.
• Participates in pre-funding capacity assessments of potential partners.
• Assists in reviewing, finalizing and managing grant budgets/proposals.
• Assists in reviewing of grant progress and financial reports (PFRs).
• Works closely with program staff to resolve and follow up grant financial issues.
• Mentors partners and provides technical capacity development to plan, implement, monitor and report on grants awarded.
• Continuously reviews accounting procedures, internal controls and financial reports of grantees, performs risk assessments and establishes risk mitigation plans.
• Undertakes any other duties as may be assigned.
Required Education, Experience and Skills
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or Business Administration
• CPA (K)/ACCA qualification.
• Minimum of three (3) years experience in an NGO set up.
• Experience working with Foundation grants preferred.
• Experience working at a regional or international level would be an added advantage.
• Good understanding of procurement processes and guidelines.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Analytical skills, attention to detail and a strong work ethic.
• Capacity to work under pressure, prioritize tasks and meet inflexible deadlines.
• Proficiency in computers specifically with Microsoft Office and accounting software.
• Positive attitude.
Other Requirements
Excellent written and oral English communication skills. Good interpersonal and negotiation skills. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Ability to synthesize information and generate clear verbal and written communications. Self-directed and able to anticipate, prioritize and manage tasks. Ability to travel 35% time.
